Pop-punk trio Green Day is the new face for the fashion label John Varvatos. Varvatos is opening up a retail store in the old location of the celebrated punk club CBGB. Green Day follows acts like the Roots, Alice Cooper, and Iggy Pop endorsing the brand in their Spring/Summer 2012 campaign.
The campaign shows Green Day showing off their dangling skills on crossbeams over the city that never sleeps, NYC. Band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool are clad in leather and denim. The shoot is reminiscent of Philippe Petit’s “Man on Wire” act and Charles C. Ebbets timeless photo “Construction Workers Lunching on a Crossbeam.” The three are dressed in casual-chic in the spread which surprisingly suits them. Photographer Danny Clinch surely knows how to liven things up and imagery of the shoot says it all.
It was admitted by Stephen Niedzweicki, create director of Yard, that the shoot was inspired by “Man on Wire.” The act shows a man traversing on a tightrope illegally rigged in between the Twin Towers. It definitely suits the band, the act shows a lot of rebellion and danger but in a striking and rousing way. This is rock’n’roll. To be at this height, at this level off the ground is certainly a feat. You have the best view of New York City from this vantage point and you couldn’t get any higher than that – pun intended.
You can see the photos of Green day on the official Varvatos Website. You can also watch a short behind the scene film giving the aunce a little peak into what happens in the shoot with music added from Green Day riffs. Check it out.
